Public Statement | Lawyers for Human Rights to Support Constituents, Not Formally Participate in National Dialogue

Date: 10/10/2025

On 17 September 2025, Lawyers for Human Rights (LHR) announced its decision and position on the upcoming National Dialogue process. After careful consideration, the organisation has chosen not to participate in the process in a formal capacity.

This decision reflects LHR’s longstanding approach to ensure that communities most affected by inequality, exclusion and systemic injustice are not spoken for, but instead are supported to speak for themselves.

While LHR will not be participating formally, our commitment to a just and inclusive national conversation remains firm.

“Our role is, and always has been, to amplify the voices of those who are most often excluded,” said Wayne Ncube, National Director of Lawyers for Human Rights. “Rather than acting within the Dialogue’s structure, our most constructive path is to empower our constituents, who wish to participate, to engage directly and safely, should they choose to do so.”

To this end, LHR will:

  • Facilitate access to information about the Dialogue process for its client communities and partner organisations.
  • Provide logistical and advisory support to members of its constituencies who wish to engage directly with the process.

LHR reiterates its unwavering belief that any national dialogue must be conducted in a manner that is inclusive, respectful of fundamental human rights, and free from hate speech, discrimination and intolerance.
