This submission argues that the psychosocial well-being of defenders is shaped not only by exposure to human rights violations, but also by the broader civic and political environment in which defenders operate. Secondary trauma, public stigmatization, online harassment, threats and shrinking civic space interact to create cumulative and long-term mental health impacts for defender.
